Magic and madness.

The surreal cinema spectacle "The Fall" deeply immersed in the thought world of a little girl. Although there is pretty silly too, but in the overwhelming images, obtained as a movie lover should have seen: just drop it and enjoy.

Fresh is "The Fall" is really no more, in the sense you can look forward to the movie it's still in the German cinema has achieved. The official premiere took place already in autumn 2006 at the Toronto Film Festival held a few months later he was still in a rather inconspicuous Generations series shown at the Berlinale, and then nothing happened first. Only about a year later, the U.S. had a small theatrical release, more or less of the public. In Canada, he came only as a DVD.

A bitter lot for the eagerly awaited second feature by director Tarsem, whose debut film - the serial killer movie "The Cell" with Jennifer Lopez - in 2000, although for very mixed reactions caused, but its exciting to nightmarish imagery attracted much attention and a respectable result box provided.

The two films have much in common: recovery plays a big part of the plot in the thought world of a protagonist from, again, there are stunning pictures to see and again wins the style clearly doubtful about the substance.

This is not, however, the sick imagination of a murderer to explore, but the colorful dream world of the little girl Alexandria (Catinca Untaru). The arm is broken and lies in a hospital in Los Angeles, sometime from 1910 to 1920, not coincidentally, at the time when the film industry just started to invent. Because it is boring, she makes friends with a shackled to the bed and love-sick movie stuntman (Lee Pace, known from "Pushing Daisies") that is it a mystical story begins in five in the desert exiled heroes who with an evil tyrant (Daniel Caltagirone) record.

In Alexandria imagination take people from the hospital in the roles of legendary heroes history, and she thinks are colorful places and worlds in favor of changing eras, as it probably only a small child can. Slowly mix the two levels of narrative, the images are absurd, grotesque and brutal to unleashed, roaring finale.

This all looks incredible good. Over four years, the former advertising and music video director Tarsem in 18 different countries of the Fiji Islands Chile to Cambodia rotated, and incredible filming locations found, which he with all sorts of camera tricks a surreal, fairy same aura missed. Whether a mysterious blue city, one of stairs lined abyss or endless deserts and underwater worlds - a visual spectacle triggers from the next, allegedly without computer effects, just as you would have never seen before.

One problem is the screenplay, which in excessive fidelity to the prospect of a five-year-olds sometimes arg gets silly and infantile. Adults may be bored quickly, while for children towards the end just too much violent way. Unlike Guillermo del Toros similar stroke of luck "Pans Labyrinth" Tarsem offers no intelligent and exciting context for its dreamlike images, the film suffocates without credible level in almost magic and madness.

But who in the power of pictures and believes loves the cinema, because it can create worlds like no other medium, it is written in "The Fall" correctly. Just drop and enjoy.
