Hey Age, I am not a victim!.

With me not! In Hermione Huntgeburth movie version of Fontane's "Effi Briest" is the tragic heroine is not so easy to get as in the literary original. Julia Jentsch shines in the title role - but so completely convinced of the change to Emanze not.

No question, Julia Jentsch is a great Effi Briest. From the first moment, and kept still as cheerful girl from a good home, throws it with such energy in her role that you now believe that this freedom-loving young woman, the world will lie at your feet, that nothing and nobody to stop it can.

Of course, it is the most viewers know better, many had finally during school in long, long hours by the German tragedy of Effi Briest torment. But one would like to acknowledge this is not so much lust for life and passion. Could it be about that but its another end is possible? The fact that they do not gramerfüllt dies, as a breach adulteress, as victims of a merciless, hypocritical society?

Why not be the scriptwriter and director Volker Einrauch Hermione Huntgeburth ( "The White Massai") could have imagined, and have access to a modern, Theodor Fontane's famous novel about society.

And they have hardly anything changed in the basic constellation of the scenes, and up to the end does not participate in the drama: The Effi is sweet as Fontaneallee from parental Idyll torn and with the much older feel cold Baron von Instetten (Sebastian Koch) married, bored to death in his spukigem house on the Baltic Sea and eventually starts an affair with the Major of fescher Crampas (misel Maticevic)? what comes out years later, the deadly duel between Instetten and Crampas and social death EFFIS leads.

But with little details Huntgeburth prepare, and most of all Einrauch Jentsch this Effi Briest on a conciliatory before starting. Always times someone mentioned that Effi often unhealthy, but actually becomes ill, they hardly showed. The Crampas enjoys sex with them in all the passion, with a growing hunger for more.

The more they differ from their destination as brave and unhappy wife dares to solve, the more they seem to be. Even then, when practiced by men, parents and society of the fine violated. When Julia Jentsch towards the end with eyes glowing with rage and trembling voice "Your virtue widert me," the canvas entgegenschleudert, it is not finding one's own bitter defeat, but a challenge.

Pity that Huntgeburth and Einrauch not even more liberties with the presentation made in order to realize their Effi Briest something more credible as an independent power-woman position.

To be faithful to the expected and known motifs one after the other will be processed in order to have more time, really in the depths of history to go and it is a bit too much emphasis on schwelgerische costumes and a bit too little on a coherent psychology outside the Fontane rigid corsets made.

This makes the filming of Effi Briest in their claim to be a modern interpretation of classic wanting to be, to a little disappointment. In relation to Rainer Werner Fassbinder's artificial, but very werktreuer version with Hanna Schygulla Huntgeburth the 1974 version is fairly conventional, only with a new rotation which, in the end not quite fit mag.

Interesting as usual, over-, but hardly inspired Literaturverfilmerei in the style of the very successful recently launched "Buddenbrooks" is anyway.
