First Golden Bear went to Irish short films.

The first winner at the Berlinale: For his short film "Please Say Something", the Irish director David O'Reilly with the Golden Bear award. The Silver Bear in the short film category went to the Brits Daniel Elliot.

 


Berlin / Hamburg - "The film solves many feelings and has given us because of its very human view of things is not released," said the jury on Wednesday about David OReillys short film "Please Say Something". "The characters give equal opportunity to laugh and be sad", it was.

The Silver Bear went to "Jade" by Daniel Elliott of Britain. The DAAD Short Film Award was the Cuban filmmaker Susana Barriga for "The Illusion".

Since 1955 will be at the Berlin Film Festival awarded the best short films - since 2003 by an international jury, since 2006 in a separate section. With the introduction
a separate short film category of the festival management wanted "the importance of the short film for film in general support."

This year in the category "Berlinale Shorts" showed about 30 short films, ten of which were nominated for the award. The DAAD-Award is given to prospective grantees.

The Berlinale runs until 15 February.
