Palme d'Or for Haneke, best lead actor Waltz.

Double success for Austria: The film "White Band" by director Michael Haneke was at the Cannes Film Festival with the Golden Palm award. For best actor Christoph Waltz was chosen - for his role in the Tarantino film "Inglourious Basterds".

 


Cannes - Grand Prize for Christoph Waltz: The Austrian born actor was at the Cannes Film Festival for best leading actor award.
In the film "Inglourious Basterds" the U.S. director Quentin Tarantino to play the 52-year-old Waltz, a Nazi officer. The second main role in the film is Brad Pitt.

The Studio Babelsberg Waltz immediately congratulated on his success. "His eloquent and impressive staging mimic its role is high drama - he dominates the film, be it in French, English, German or Italian, if necessary," said the studio executive Christoph Fisser on Sunday evening.

The film "White Band" by Austrian director Michael Haneke, with the main prize of the contest awards - the Golden Palm. In the film playing, amongst others, the German actor Ulrich Tukur, Susanne Lothar, Burghart Klaußner and Josef Bierbichler with. The story takes place in a German village shortly before the First World War.

The Grand Jury Prize went to the Frenchman Jacques Audiard for the prison drama "A prophet." The best female actress rejoiced Frenchwoman Charlotte Gainsbourg on the assessment of their role in "Antichrist" by Lars von Trier.
