Painfully slow roller Nazi.

Marauding soldiers scalp Nazis in occupied France. So far, so ludicrous and so typical Quentin Tarantino. Quite fieberte the Cannes film "Inglourious Basterds" opposite - and had, after the premiere of the work to feel tough, blood drying zugeschaut it.

Rarely seen so many men on the podium a news conference in Cannes, so much sweat as this Wednesday. Immediately after the initial screening of Quentin Tarantino's hotly anticipated film "Inglourious Basterds" was the director and his team to the journalists.

Mike Myers, the film in a cool British General plays, shone the forehead before the first question. Daniel Brühl, Tarantino as the dashing Nazi occupation has opened the collar of his shirt and pulled the tie down to a bit of freshness to give. And the director himself looked as if he straight for two hours through the rainforest gejoggt.

Only one does not sweat.

He was, however, not on the podium, but in front of it, at the feet of the director. That was the producer Harvey Weinstein, the many previous films as Tarantino's "Pulp Fiction" or "Kill Bill" and awarded it a very rich and very powerful has become. In summer it is now also "Inglourious Basterds" in the United States bring to the cinema.

Motionless, with a glance of the worst villains could lead them to focus on the body to entleiben, he stared at his director. In the words flowed so uncontrollably from the mouth as the water from the pores, but he always laughed hysterically.

You could have the impression Weinstein wanted nothing less than the scalp of Tarantino.

Why he looked so gloomy? One can only speculate.

Maybe it was because Tarantino on the podium cheerfully told that he could deal with all characters in the film identify consequently with Hitler (played by Martin Wuttke) and Goebbels (Sylvester Groth), in "Inglourious Basterds" by a group of American German soldiers and defectors at a film premiere in Paris are to be killed.

Or it was because the director just a few months after filming concluded had delivered a film that had so many lengths, as if it were the first Rohschnittfassung?

Because "Inglourious Basterds" is to be seen as if the blood when you watch it dry.

The first dialog scene lasts about 20 minutes. A Nazi officer (Christoph Waltz) examined in 1941 in the middle of a farm in France to identify Jews. He screwed together his pen, as he would put together a weapon, he drinks a glass of full enjoyment of milk, said long and wide, so what he does, and contributes highly complicated his views on fighting against rats. After about 15 minutes the camera pans down and discovered hidden under the floorboards people. But before they briefly Garben shredded by machine gun will get none of them has a face.

Tarantino begins with total standstill - and then takes the pace out slowly. Without any sense of timing, he rolled his story beaten 160 minutes long on the canvas. He tells of a French Jewish woman (Mélanie Laurent) who escapes the Nazis and then a cinema in Paris takes over, by a British special agent who previously has written film reviews, and a German sniper who is a great admirer of the director GW Pabst is. The whole world is cinephile, and it is not surprising that at the end of a huge explosion in a cinema Hitler, Goebbels and cohorts hinwegrafft.

The cinema redeemed the world from the Nazis - that's a nice retrospective utopia. At the same time, but complete nonsense. Only in a grotesque exaggeration of this story could well serve a useful purpose. But Tarantino can never decide whether he would prefer not to be taken seriously.

Brad Pitt must be the leader of the "Basterds" is still more violent than grimassieren recently in "Burn After Reading"; Laurent, it plays the heroine of the Resistance with psychological realism. In this little movie fits together. If Weinstein with Tarantino again at the cutting table sets, there is much to do.

And with a fine scalpel, is it not done his.
