Tavernier, Frears and ozone in the competition.

Should have a say, the Berlinale has too few stars in the offer. The competition of the film festival boasts excellent performers and renowned directors - from Europe, Asia and the Americas.

 


Berlin - In the competition of this year's Berlinale will also be the new film directors Stephen Frears, Hans-Christian Schmid, François Ozon and Andrzej Wajda shown. 25 of a total of 26 competition entries were thus found, the Berlin International Film Festival on Thursday.

The British filmmaker Frears ( "The Queen") shows in a world premiere of his new book "Chéri," in which Michelle Pfeiffer and Kathy Bates can be seen. French star director Ozon ( "8 Women") presents "Ricky", of which Poland Wajda ( "Katyn") is "Tatarak (Sweet Rush)" to be seen. To a bear applies also Schmid ( "Requiem") with the film "Storm" in which Kerry Fox and Anamaria Marinca play.

Out of competition is the world premiere of "Germany 09", a compilation film, inter alia, by Fatih Akin, Tom Tykwer, Wolfgang Becker, Sylke Enders, Dominik Graf, Nicolette Krebitz, Hans Weingartner, Christoph Hochhäusler and Dani Levy.

Also out of competition is "Eden à l'ouest (Eden is West)" by Constantin Costa-Gavras with Juliane Kohler and Ulrich Tukur in the leading roles. The Greek-French director was 2008 President of the Berlinale jury.

Other competition films: "Happy Tears" by Mitchell Lichtenstein with Demi Moore and Parker Posey and "In the Electric Mist" by Bertrand Tavernier with Tommy Lee Jones, John Goodman and Peter Sarsgaard.

Already firmly focused on the competition film "All Others" by Maren Ade, "Rage" by Sally Potter, "Mei Lanfang (Enthralled Forever)" by Chen Kaige and "The Dust of Time" by Theo Angelopoulos.

Out of competition are "The readers" by Stephen Daldry, "The Private Lives of Pippa" by Rebecca Miller and "Pink Panther II" by Harald Zwart showed. The Berlinale will open with Tom Tykwer's "The International".

The 59th Berlin International Film Festival can be found on 5 to 15 February.
