Oscar-show deviates Olympia.

The Oscars recognize their place for the Olympic Winter Games: 2010 is the most important film awards in the world not as usual held in February. A new date, however, was already found.

 

Los Angeles/Hamburg- sports and drama are usually not too much competition. Now, however, won the organizers of the Olympic Winter Games is the fight for a coveted event date.

Because traditionally, the Academy Award each year awarded at the end of February. But 2010 can be found from 12 to 28 February in Vancouver, Canada, the Olympic Winter Games. To prevent overlap and thus a decline in ratings to avoid was the 82nd Oscar-show so now at the 7th March postponed, as the Academy Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced in Los Angeles.

Even the presentation of the Oscar nominations shall be reviewed in 2010 moved to 2 February. This year it was held on 22 January.

The March deadline, however, is not new for the Oscars: From 1943 to 2003, the Academy Awards is always in March or April organized. Only then was the date forward to February. But in 2006 the organizers made an exception: They moved the deadline in March - also because of the Olympic Winter Games.

It briefly became the award in its history since 1929 so far only been postponed three times: 1938 as a flood flooded Los Angeles, and in 1968 out of respect for the mourning ceremony for Martin Luther King, and 1981 because of an attack on the then U.S. president Ronald Reagan.
